Magee lost one of its most beloved citizens in the death of . Mrs. Lucy Mangum, 66, wife of J. J. Mangum, local business man. Mrs. Mangum had been ill for several weeks, and her death was not unexpected by the members of her family.
She was a member of the Antioch Methodist church. She had lived all her life in this county, and has a host of friends and relatives who mourn her death. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W. M. Williams, chaplain of the state sanatorium, from the Sharon Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Sharon cemetery. Rev. Williams was assisted in the services by the Rev. Norman Purvis of Magee and Rev. Mr. Roberts of Pineville.
Mrs. Mangum is survived. by her husband, seven children, Charlie Mangum, Lowery Mangum, Mrs. Addie Ates, Mrs. Zora Ates. Emma Mangum of Magee, and Mrs. Audell McAlpin of Mt. Olive; three brothers, John Rankin, James Rankin, and Richmond Rankin; four sisters, Mrs. R. M. Maddox, Mrs. Joe White. Mrs. Jesse Mangum, and Mrs. Mary Thames.
