SALEM - Edward George Manning, 84, of 2332 Lexington Ave. died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday at Hutton Nursing Center following a long illness.

Born July 4, 1911 in Wellsville, he was the son of George G. and Bessie (Irons) Manning.

Mr. Manning moved from Wellsville to Salem in 1931. For 30 years he had been employed as a packer at Eljer Company, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death in 1944 by his first wife, the former Laura Irene Boring.

Survivors include his wife, the former Donna Jean Barnes, whom he married July 5, 1945; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Aline) Aebi of Alliance, and Penny Peters of Beaver, Pa.; five sons, George Manning of Prospect, Ky., Ralph Manning of Canton, Donald Manning of Youngstown, Richard Manning of Norton and Edward R. Manning of Salem; two sisters, Maibell Mills of Pinellas Park, Fla. and Bonnie Stokes of Englewood; a brother, Floyd Manning of San Diego; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
