John E. AllenSept. 23, 1924 - July 18, 2004LAUREL - John E. Allen, 79, of Laurel, formerly of Tunnelton, died Sunday, July 18, at his residence. Under a physician's care, his death was unexpected. Born September 23, 1924, in Tunnelton, he was one of six children of Oliver Perry and Julia Ann (Wilcox) Allen.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1943 to 1946 in the European Theater of World War II, returning to Tunnelton after the war. Following his marriage to Wilma Jean Blackwell, in Heltonville, they moved to Franklin County. He had been employed by Rex Manufacturing and its successors, Philco and Ford, in Connersville, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially coon hunting and fishing.Surviving with his wife, Wilma Jean Allen of Laurel are three daughters: Dana Johnson of Laurel, Donna Holcomb of Metamora and Debra McIntosh of Indianapolis; two sons: Dale Allen and his wife Myrna of Laurel and Doug Allen and his wife Kim of Metamora; one sister, Virginia "Boots" Barrett of Florida; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, David; two brothers; and two sisters.
