"Clarence B Gates Died At Fairview Yesterday - Well Known Resident Had Been in Failing Health for Several Months - Clarence B Gates, for many years a resident of Fairview, died at his home at that place yesterday morning at 8 o'clock. He had been ill for several weeks, death following a complication of ailments. He was 53 years of age, having been born July 17, 1869, in ----- county, Kansas. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Gates, both of whom are now dead. He was united in marriage at Frewsburg, NY, Sept 2, 1893, to Miss Abigail Emerson, and shortly afterward moved to the vicinity of the late home. The deceased is survived by nine children, all of whom are living: Fred and Gilbert of Titusville, Robert of Venus, Mrs Jessie Frederick of Oil City, Mrs Thomas Downs of Grove City, Clarence, Jr, Livingston, Alice and Nellie at home. There are two brothers, Bert Gates of Bear Lake, and Fred Gates of Oklahoma. He was a member of the Diamond Grange and funeral services will be conducted from the late home on Thursday."

"Funeral of Clarence B Gates - Funeral services in memory of the late Clarence B Gates of Fairview were held yesterday afternoon from the family home at 2 o'clock, Rev A Hicock, pastor of the local Wesleyan Methodist church, officiating. There were a large number of neighbors and friends, as well as numerous relatives from a distance in attendance. The floral tributes were profuse and beautiful. Two numbers, 'Safe in the Arms of Jesus,' and 'One Sweet, Solemn Thought,' were rendered by Mrs Joseph Coleman and Mrs S P Eckstrom. Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery, the following acting as pall bearers: John Tarr, Jacob Acle, T V Peebles, Clarence Hancox, Oliver and Norman Strawbridge. Those in attendance at the obsequies from a distance were: Mr and Mrs Thomas Downs and daughter Mildred of Grove City, Mr and Mrs Robert E Gates and son DeWayne of Venus, Mr and Mrs John Loomis, Mrs Carrie Young and ---- and Orlo Emerson of Grand Valley, Mr and Mrs Abraham Emerson and family, Mr and Mrs Luther Eddy and Mr and Mrs Bertram Anthony and family of Pleasantville."
