Allen W. Brown was born in Upson County, Georgia, 20 August 1831. He was the son of Franklin and Martha (DeLoach) Brown, who were married in Jones County, Georgia, 5 January 1823 and immediately moved to Upson County where they settled near the Flint River. He married Susan Threaton Shuptrine of Thomaston, Georgia, 19 November 1863, daughter of James Shuptrine and Ann Purnell, longtime residents of Upson County.
