MAUDE BASQUIN--FUNERAL: Madison 30 Sep 1905. The obsequies of Miss Maude Basquin were held yesterday afternoon. Amid the strains of the hymn "Nearer My God to Thee" the beautiful white casket containing the remains was brought into the church & placed before the altar amid many beautiful flowers. The choir which was composed of MrsThomas, MissHelen Kimball, MrCarl Kimball & MrDavid Smead then sang the hymn, "How Gentle God's Commands", RevThomas offered prayer after which the choir sang "Naomi" a calm & thankful heart. RevThomas spoke of how faithful MissBasquin had been in the school & home & how great a loss was sustained in her death. She led a pure & beautiful life & was an example to the school & community. The days of her work are ended & she has gone Home to meet her loved ones on the other side. After a short prayer the choir sang one of her favorite hymns "Shall We Gather at the River". The large procession then filed slowly to the cemetery where a short service was held by the Rebekah Lodge of which she was a member. After a song by MrsNorville & daughter MrsSmith, the little pupils she loved so well marched slowly by, each dropping carnations on the casket. MissBasquin was 28 years 5 months of age & had served in the capacity of teacher in the public schools of Madison about 10 years & her influence as a loving teacher has gone into many a home.
MissBasquin is preceded to her better home by a sister who died about 9 years ago & her father who died 27 Dec 1904, just 9 months ago. She leaves a mother & a host of friends to mourn her untimely death.
