Jim was a 68 year old farmer married to Elizabeth West at the time of his death from carcinoma of the face. Dr. MA Thomas had been treating since 1937. He had not been able to farm for about one year.
He was the son of Jeremiah Calhoun (Jerry) West born in Georgia, the informant on his death certificate, J Homer West address, New Waverly, Texas, did not know the name of Jim's mother. After researching we find Jim's mother was Martha Jane Calhoun.
He was buried in Jim English Cemetery on November 23, 1938.
We also find Jim on the 1910 Houston County Census living with his wife Elizabeth and their children:
