PHILIPSBURG -- Merle E. Williams, 85, formerly of Seventh Street, Philipsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 19 at 7:22 a.m. at the United Methodist Home in Lewisburg.

Born in Altoona, May 6 1900, he was a son of Elmer and Blanch (Hess) Willias. He is survived by his wife, the former Emma Berty, and was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Williams was the last of his generation.

A retired Penelec auditor, he was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, having served as treasurer for many years. Mr. Williams was also a member of the following Masonic organizations: a past master of the Moshannon Lodge, No. 391 F and AM, Philipsburg; the Clearfield Royal Arch Chapter No. 228; Moshannon Council, No. 56; Knights Templer, No. 74, Williamsport Consistory; Jaffa Mosque, Altoona; York Rite College; Red Cross of Constantine and the Knights of the York Cross of Honor, Harrisburg. He was also a member of the Johnstown stamp club.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Beezer Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Jay M. Derk officiating. Internment will follow in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
