Born in 1805 in Germany to Jakob Landenberger and Barbara Wilhelm. Jacob Thomas came to America with his wife and children on the ship Brig Champion arriving in the city of Philadelphia, PA on July 28, 1834.

He listed his job as Smith but in the United States Census and on his death notice he is listed as a Farmer. From Pennsylvania he moved to Ohio and then to Watertown, Michigan.

Jacob Thomas married Anna Maria Stoll on Nov. 22, 1829. She was the daughter of Johann Georg Stoll and Maria Elisabeth Ott.
