Son of Ann Barnes and Isaac III Bloxham. Third son and fifth child in a family of twelve children.

John Charles' father, Isaac III, was born at Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinos (1842) the year after his family immigrated from England aboard the sailing vessel, the Echo. The grandfather, Isaac I had stayed in England and Isaac III's ten month old brother, Isaac II, had died at sea.

After his mother and father married at the Salt Lake City Endowment House, SL, Utah 11 April 1867, his first three siblings were born at Kays' Creek, later known as Kays' Ward and then Kaysville, Davis, Utah. They were William Isaac and Elizabeth Diannah and Martha Ann.

In 1870 the family moved to Marsh Valley, Bannock County, Idaho. His second brother, Wilford Lorenzo, was born here and John Charles is recorded as born at "Downey", which would have been the same area.

Fredrick Fitzjohn, Erastus Zacheria, Francis Emma and Nellie Drucilla were born before the family's move back to Kaysville before the 1880 Utah census. Richard Thomas was born that year. The eleventh, a sister, Lucy Adelia was born prior to the move back to Idaho where Horace Robert was born at Woodland, Bannock, Idaho. They then had ten surviving children.

John Charles' last brother is Horace Robert.

John Charles married Elizabeth Davis 12 June 1900 at Willow Creek, Bingham, Idaho. She was born 28 January 1884 at Treasureton, Franklin, Idaho, the daughter of Sarah Treasure and William Rees Davis.
