Known to his family as Joe Ed and his friends as Joe, this young man is survived by his parents, Jesse Edwin Abernathy and JoAnn Anderson Abernathy and a sister, Trisha Jo Abernathy. He has one nephew, Derek Watson and many cousins. Joe was a middle school coach in Texas and had never been married or had children. It appears that a candle fell off of a woodburning stove and set the family home on fire. Joe was in the home alone when this happened. He had a quiet gentle nature and was loved by those that knew him. There were two really wonderful newspaper articles regarding this recent family tragedy: one in the Victoria Advocate, Victoria, Texas and one in the Burnet Bulletin, Burnet, Texas. Joe Ed was my first cousin, our dads are brothers. Though he did not live long on this earth, he touched the lives of many families and children that will remember him forever.
