Daughter of Denton and Joylynn Ritchie of Dayton. Samantha attended Woodland Hills Babtist Church. Preceded in death by her paternal grandmoother, Loretta Ritchie (1991). Also survived by 3 brothers. Edward, Gregory, Timothy; maternal grandparents, Joyce & Ray Shoemaker, paternal greandfather, Homer Ritchie, 4 aunts and their spouses, other aunts and uncles, cousins.

On July 18, 1995, Therressa Jolynn Ritchie reported to a Dayton, Ohio 911 operator that her four-year-old daughter Samantha was missing. The local media extensively covered the disappearance. On July 22, 1995, law enforcement investigators found Samantha's body in a water-filled pit on the grounds of an abandoned foundry near her neighborhood. Therressa Jolynn Ritchie and Ernest Vernell Brooks were arrested and convicted on various charges involving Samantha.
