A resident of Baton Rouge, John Edward Naylor Sr. passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 and a native of Choudrant. In 1953, he opened the first of three Naylor's Hardware stores. He was a founding member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school class for 40 years. He was elected elder emeritus of his church. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge and Southeast Ministries, a champion Table Tennis player and an avid gardener. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, July 9, was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 9340 Florida Blvd., on Friday from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by his loving wife, Marguerite Franklin Naylor; daughter, Kathleen Naylor Savoie and husband Chip; son, John E. Naylor Jr. and wife Gwynn; five grandchildren, Kristy Savoie Hooe and husband Jason, Denise Savoie Schneider and husband Eric, Erin Naylor, Trey Savoie and wife Bethany, and Megan Naylor Nealy and husband Chris; and four great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. James F. Naylor Sr.; two brothers, James F. Naylor Jr. and the Rev. Duncan N. Naylor; and sister, Anne Naylor Yeadaker. Pallbearers will be Chip Savoie, Trey Savoie, Will Naylor Sr., Tim Naylor, Doug Naylor and Duncan Naylor. Honorary pallbearer is Joe Glass. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
