Evora James Bates, a follower of Jesus Christ, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012 in a local hospital surrounded by family.

She was a retired Inhalation Therapist for both Crawford County Hospital and Sparks, a member of the First Baptist Church of Van Buren and a lifelong resident of Van Buren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Coach Clair Bates, and two sisters, Anna B Stephens and Lonna Belle Cotner.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Thomas and husband, Bill and Barbara Trafican all of Van Buren; one son, Larry James of Bettendorf, Iowa; nine grandchildren; Nathan Teague, Chris, Julie & Kevin James, Debbie Heinz, David, Danny & Doug Trafican and Teri McBrayer; nine great grandchildren; four nieces & nephews, Betty Beazley, David Stephens, Tom Fowler and Linda Cotner; a brother-in-law & wife, Hiltraud & Doby James.

Funeral services will be Monday June 4th 2012 at 10:00am
at U.S. National Pavilion in Fort Smith, with burial at Fort Smith National Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Scott McBrayer, Benton Cone, Drew Cone, Jason Myers, Ricky Spoon and Bobby Robinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of her Sunday School Class and her Bridge Club.
