While living in Baytown, Dorothy was granted a license on July 27, 1956 to operate a commercial day care center known as Happy House Day Nursery. This was the first licensed day nursery in Baytown. She retired after twenty-two years. Dorothy loved all the children and was always so happy to receive a note from one when they were older or to read about them as they were off to college or getting married.
Dorothy also had a great love for pet miniature poodles. At one time that included eight. The family would get a big kick out of seeing JP and Dorothy riding around with all eight dogs in the back seat of their little Volkswagen.
Dorothy was a fantastic cook. When family members get together they always talk about how great certain dishes were she prepared. She was also a very good seamstress. Her girls remember many Easter dresses made during the early years of growing up. Genealogy was another interest and Dorothy gave many years to that study.
Dorothy was a lifelong Baptist and from early years attended church. After a move from Liberty she attended church in New Braunfels, Texas until medical problems became an issue and the cause to reside at Guadalupe Valley Nursing Center in Seguin where she passed away. The family has great appreciation for the care given Dorothy.
