The following obituary appeared in a Montgomery county, Missouri newspaper:

"Sarah Jane Ellis was born March 16, 1861, and departed this life January 17, 1934, aged 72 years, 10 months and 1 day. In 1879 she was married to Singleton Shaw McCarty. To this union were born eight children, four of whom preceded her to the Great Beyond. Those living are two daughters, Mrs. Leah Stiegman, Mrs. Wilmeth Clark of New Florence, Mo., and two sons, Luther McCarty of New Florence and Claude McCarty of Colorado Springs, Colorado. There are also living 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, one brother, John Ellis, of Big Spring and one sister, Mrs. Fannie Barton, of Alley. Mo., These will all sady miss her. Her husband died about 12 years ago.

In early life she professed religion and united with the Liberty Baptist church. She was truly an exemplary Christian and delighted in attending church as long as she was able.

She was a silent sufferer of cancer for many months, but bore her suffering with patience and without murmur. As long as she was able she spent the greater part of her time ministering unto the sick and suffering. The Lord said, "Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye did it unto me." So now we hear him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."

Besides the sorrowing relatives she leaves a host of neighbors and friends who will miss her friendly greetings. May all who mourn her departure follow her lovely Christian example; may her influence help them to so live that they may meet her in that heavenly home prepared for those who do God's will.

After funeral services at Liberty church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Sams, the remains were interrred in the Ellis cemetery beside those of her husband, to await the glorious resurrection.--One Who Loved Her."

From her death record Sarah Jane McCarty died at the age of 72-10-1 of carcinoma of the right breast for two years. She was the widow of Singleton McCarty at the time of her death. She resided at New Florence, Missouri at the time of her death.
