BLOOMINGTON — Danny C. Bogott, 77, Bloomington, passed away May 27, 2012 at Heritage Health in Bloomington.

Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.

He was born June 2, 1934, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, son of Fred "Ted" and Celia Dunbar Bogott. He married Shirley Smith on April 17, 1955, in Rock Falls.

Surviving are his wife of Bloomington; four daughters, Julie (Tom) Diller, Greenville, S.C.; Jorja (Rick) Hanna, Northville, Mich.; Joni (Larry) Pinter, Bloomington; and Jeanette (Jim) Bystry, Vancouver, Wash.; one son, Daniel (Oksana) Bogott, Bloomington; and 14 grandchildren, Matthew, Shanna and Betsy Diller; Brooke (Daniel) Frantz; Tyler, Scott and Erik Pinter; Jamie and Jacob Bystry; Misha, Sasha and Ashley Hanna; and Amanda and Nicholas Bogott. Also surviving are two brothers, Lyle (Jean) Bogott, Dixon, and Fred (Glenda) Bogott, Baycliff, Texas; two sisters, Leah Faye Kyger, West Chicago, and Beverly Partridge, Rock Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ann Jeanette Kophamer Badger and Kate McGrath; and three brothers-in-law.

Danny was a 1952 graduate of Rock Falls High School, where he earned 12 varsity letters in the sports of basketball, football, baseball and track. He was honored for those achievements when he was inducted into the Rock Falls High School Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Tennessee, where he played varsity basketball. His name is on the University of Tennessee Varsity letter-winner Wall of Fame.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict.

Danny worked as a foreman at Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling, until 1968, and retired as a supervisor of maintenance from LTV Steel Inc. in Hennepin, in February 1997.

He enjoyed traveling, golfing, reading, watching movies and sports, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Danny loved spending his time with his family and grandchildren and would be at most every extracurricular event that they were part of.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Princeton and attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Normal.
