Richard formerly worked as a chef at various area restaurants and most recently in the deli department of the Herrin Kroger, but it was Rich's passion and talent for music for which he is best known. He left at an early age to perform as a studio musician in Nashville. He played slide and lead guitar and was considered by many to be among the best. Rich performed at Opryland for years and most recently played for Cousin Delano and Small Town and was the former lead guitarist for Shaky Jake. Recently, he toured Europe with Josie Wales. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his special friend, Michelle Heath of Herrin; son, Tyson Lam and wife, Kim, of West Frankfort; grandchild, Noah Lam of West Frankfort; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Bruce Willmore of West Frankfort; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many close friends, too numerous to mention; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Diana Heath of Herrin; stepsons, Heath and Dustin Bandy of Herrin; and stepdaughter, Samantha Bandy of Herrin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Charlie and Tim Ahlm.
Services were held in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Tim Dame officiating.
