Helena Magdalena Lay was the first daughter of Frederich Johann Lay and Catharina Grotz to be born in America. She attended Carondelet Evangelical Church along with her family. She had a short unfortunate marriage to an Albert Bertrand Leamons from Illinois, resulting in the birth of one child, Frederick Jakob Lay. Albert Leamons ran off a few months after Frederick's birth.
