Private Co K 39th Iowa Infantry. Served in World War I.

Stuart Tate was the son of Rufus S and Anabelle Tate. He was born Feb. 12, 1894, at Sidney, where he spent his boyhood. After his high school graduation in 1912, he remained in Sidney until he left for the armed services in 1917. He served with the AEF during World War 1, with service in France and Germany.

He married Miss Mabel Ruth Whipple on Jan. 26, 1921, at Nebraska City, and to this union four children were born. They were: Brooks, Donald, Dorothy, and Ardith. They moved to Shenandoah in 1943, where he was employed at the Mount Arbor Nurseries until his retirement in 1958.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Donald, who died Mar. 04, 1960. Surviving are his wife Mabel; one son, Brooks of Omaha; two daughters, Mrs Henry (Dorothy) Hayes of Ames; and Mrs. Harold (Ardith) Cozad of Red Oak; ten grandchildren; and one sister, Harriet Larson of Plattsmouth, NE. Funeral service will be held at "Hackett Funeral Home" Friday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Ellis J. Votaw will officiate. Interment will be at Sidney Cemetery.
