Mrs. Sykes was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raleigh, and had taught music in her home for over 35 years.
She is survived by two sons, William James Sykes Jr., of Raleigh, Ollin Baines Sykes of Edenton; three grandchildren, Christopher B. Sykes, Scott W. Sykes and Todd P. Sykes.
Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday in the Oakdale Cemetery in Spring Hope, NC by Father Richard Turner.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
The Evans Home of Edenton is serving the Sykes Family.
