Mrs. Virginia Baines Sykes, 90, died Saturday, January 27, 2001 in Britthaven Nursing Home. A native of Nash County, Mrs. Sykes was a daughter of the late Annie Cone and Ollin Branch Baines and the wife of the late William James Sykes.
Mrs. Sykes was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raleigh, and had taught music in her home for over 35 years.
She is survived by two sons, William James Sykes Jr., of Raleigh, Ollin Baines Sykes of Edenton; three grandchildren, Christopher B. Sykes, Scott W. Sykes and Todd P. Sykes.
Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday in the Oakdale Cemetery in Spring Hope, NC by Father Richard Turner.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
