Helen was born on September 17, 1921, in Stryker, Ohio. Her parents were Emerson and Clela (Gentit) Harris. She was married to John H. Shock in 1940. They had three children, Terry J. Shock, James L. Shock and Barbara J. (Shock) Bowen.
She graduated in 1939 from Stryker High School, where she helped manage the girls' basketball team, played drums, cymbals and clarinet. Most important in her life was her faith in God and her family. Her former employers were All Star Products, Miller's Hamburger Shop and Eckert's. In her younger days, she was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, where she organized and served as the nursery director. She had been a member of the First Church of God in Defiance since then and conducted a ladies' Bible study in her home.
Surviving are her son, James (Bernie) Shock, and daughter, Barbara Bowen; grandchildren, Jerry Like, Julie (Ron) Nagley, Michelle (Michael) Imthurn and Brett Bowen; great-grandchildren, Tera (Ben) Rolf, Dustin Imthurn and Taylor Imthurn; great-great-grandchild, Lily Rolf; nephew, Robert G. Harris; and niece, Patti Till.
