Rudolph Omer Doiron was born 03 March 1908 in Manville, RI. He is the son of Henry Doiron (a Canadian Sea Captain) and Abina Pelland of Canada. Rudy was a plush weaver in the textile mills. Rudy died on 19 May 1973, 1 week after he retired as a foreman. He drowned in the Narragansett Bay off Point Judith when the chartered fishing boat "Comet" sank. Of the 27 people on board, only 11 were rescued. 12 perished in the 48 degree water, and 4 were missing. Captain William Jackson and his one crewmember were among the dead. The 25 men paid $10.00 each for the fishing trip. Unbeknownst to them, the Comet failed to pass its Coast Guard inspection in 1971, principally because its hull was found to be rotten. It was illegal for Captain Jackson to carry more than six passengers.
