Plymouth, Ill., Feb. 22 -- Mrs. Sarah Higgins Smith, 75, died in her home in Plymouth, Friday morning at 2 o'clock, following a several months' illness, of complications.
Mrs. Smith, who was among Plymouth's aged residents, was born July 25, 1855, in Brooklyn township, the daughter of two well known pioneers, Thomas and Mary (Edmunson) Gossage.
There are three surviving members of this large family: Mrs. Charles Waymack of Birmingham, Mrs. James Rainey, and Mrs. Miller of Macomb, sisters of Mrs. Smith.
Mrs. Smith was twice married, the first husband, Henry Higgins, died several years ago, and the second husband, the Reverend Christopher Smith, together with two sons, Elva and Charles Higgins, of the Plymouth community, survive. There are also a number of grandchildren.
She was a member of the Plymouth M. E. church, where funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Reverend J. M. Judy, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Round Prairie cemetery, near Plymouth.
Mrs. Smith is the grandmother of A. R. Higgins, of The Quincy Herald Whig.
