George Kerr (Scotty) Hamilton Jr., of Springville, Utah, devoted husband, father, friend and leader died peacefully on Wednesday, October 28 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Scotty was born on March 9, 1932 to George Kerr and Ouida Maude Pharr Hamilton in Austin, TX, where he resided with his three brothers and one sister. Scotty grew up with and later married his sweetheart Betty Mae Richardson on July 18, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake City Temple on September 8, 1964. Scotty was the father of two daughters who were the light of his life.

Scotty enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard on March 9, 1949 as a recruit and was assigned to the 36th Infantry Division as an Automotive Mechanic. He quickly rose through the ranks and held many important assignments within the Texas Army National Guard. When the Division was disbanded in 1967 he was one of the first men to attend the Airborne (Parachute) Course followed by Parachute Packing, Maintenance and Air Drop Course. After his training, he was assigned as Platoon Sergeant and Section Chief in the 371st Support Battalion (Airborne). In November 1973 he was reassigned to the Headquarters, 36th Airborne Brigade and completed the Jumpmaster Course, the Ranger Course, and the Pathfinder Course. During the next 23 years he was the mainstay of the unit. Scotty was retired due to physical disability on November 6, 1980. CWO3 Hamiltons long and distinguished career had a lasting and positive effect on the careers of many enlisted and officer personnel.

Among his many decorations and awards he earned were the Army Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 2 Hourglass Devices, Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal, Texas Medal of Merit, Texas Faithful Service Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, and Pathfinder Badge.

On March 16, 2007, in recognition of his years of leadership, professionalism and service, the Parachute Packing and Maintenance Shop, Building 67, on Camp Mabry, Texas was named the George K. (Scotty) Hamilton Building.

Upon retirement, Scotty continued his public service in law enforcement where he was an officer for Williamson County (TX) Sheriffs Department and Cedar Park (TX) Police Departments.

Scotty is survived by two daughters Terri (David) Shuler of London, England and Lesli (Todd) Baker of Mapleton, UT; brother Mosby (June) Hamilton of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren: Joseph Shuler, Jacob Shuler, Joelle Rasmussen, Jessica Shuler, Julia Shuler, Jennifer Baker and Jocelyn Baker; and four great-grandchildren: Deryck Shuler, Jaivri Shuler, Alyssia Shuler and Brianna Shuler. Scotty was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Mae (Richardson) Hamilton on August 5, 2007.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 2 at 2pm at the Spring Creek 1st Ward Chapel at 860 E 200 N, Springville. Family and friends may call Sunday, November 1 at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville, from 6 8 pm or Monday from 1 1:45 pm before the funeral at the church. Internment services will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery.
