Emil (Mitch) Ballen, 87, of Denver, CO. passed away peacefully on February 2, 2012. He was born May 21, 1924 in Bingham, UT. He graduated from Judge Memorial High. He attended Creighton and University of Maryland and graduated from the University of Utah in civil engineering. His family built and operated the Little Pine Lodge in Parley's Canyon. He excelled in powder skiing at Alta and Colorado slopes. Emil was a World War II Veteran in the Army 407th infantry fighting out side the walls of Berlin. In 12 years of retirement, Emil and his wife enjoyed world traveling.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Ballen and sister, Mary Ballen Lee, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathryn Davich Ballen, daughters, Julianne (Rich) Eichler, Mary (Greg) Dines Munson and sons, John (Linda), Mark (Sara) and James Ballen. Emil adored his seven grandchildren, Drake, Madeline, Garrett, Rory, Catie, Evan and Ezra.
For family and friends a memorial reception to celebrate Emil's life will be held Tuesday, May 29th, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Benvegnu Center, Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Family interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
