Wandalea C. Underwood, 90, of Atchison, KS, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, May 26, 2012 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Alderson Cemetery, Good Intent, KS. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials in honor of Mrs. Underwood are suggested to the Alderson Cemetery or the First Christian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Wandalea was born December 18, 1921 in Hatfield, MO the daughter of Elmer and Della (Smith) Heyle. She graduated from High School in Hatfield, MO. Wanda was a member of the First Christian Church and the Farm Bureau Unit. She was a housewife and enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking chocolate chip cookies and wouldn't miss watching her soap operas or "stories" as she liked to call them.
Wanda married Courtney Underwood, Jr. on January 28, 1949 in Kansas City, KS. Courtney preceded her in death on May 29, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Orvis Heyle and and a sister, Blondina Heyle.
Survivors include a son, Courtney ‘Curly' Underwood, III and his wife, Joan, of Atchison, KS; 3 grandchildren, Jeremy Underwood and his wife Julie; Candi Underwood and Chris Underwood, all of Atchison and 3 great-grandchildren, Ethan & Wyatt Hale and Samuel Underwood.
