October 16, 1896

William B. Carriger was born in Carter county, Tennessee April 2, 1813. Some time in his early life, we do not know the exact date, he was converted and joined the Baptist church and was a member of the church until his death which occurred October 11, 1896 at 3:16 a.m. In 1851 he moved to Taylor County, Iowa. There he was elected and served one term as sheriff of that county.

In 1857 he immigrated to Lynn County, Kansas and there voted for Kansas to be a free state. In 1866 he moved to Benton County where he has resided ever since. On his deathbed he repeatedly made it known that he was ready and willing to die. He leaves five sons and two daughters to mourn his loss. I am requested to thank the people of this neighborhood through The News for their kindness during the father's illness.
