He was born Aug. 16, 1936, in Peoria to James A. and Ada M. (Frey) Erwin. He married Sueko Nakahodo on July 29, 1966, in Okinawa.
She survives along with one daughter, Sayuri (Nathan) Elmore of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sons, Michael Erwin of Peoria and Brian Erwin of Peoria; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Raymond S. Erwin; and two brothers, Harmon and Robert Erwin.
Don was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served in Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force on July 1, 1974, after serving over 20 years. At his retirement, he was a master sergeant.
He was a lifetime member of the Peoria Heights VFW Post 2602. He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association.
Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, with full military rites.
