Verda M. Jones
Verda M. Jones, 68, of Scammon, died at 4:20 p.m., Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Galena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Galena.
She was born Feb. 5, 1935, at Pittsburg, the daughter of Frank and Verda Ida (Moore) Hand.
She graduated from Weir High School in 1953 and was a lifelong resident of southeast Kansas.
She married Gerald Jones on Dec. 18, 1954 in Pittsburg. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Jones was a housewife and member of the Methodist Church of Weir and the Order of the Eastern Star No. 117.
Additional survivors include four sons, Jim Jones of Pittsburg and Doug Jones, Clay Jones and Greg Jones, all of rural Scammon; a sister, Kay Hamlin of Bukner, Mo.; her step-mother, Hazel Hand of Lowell; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandchild, Samantha Jones.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Council Corners Cemetery of rural Scammon, with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Eastern Star rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Weir, with a visitation following until 8 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Weir.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
