Born in Bloomington Township, Decatur County, Iowa. Attended Baker School in the acquirement of his education. His father owned a threshing machine which Jim helped with, going from farm to farm every summer, working with the crew. He was known for his ability to stack hay. He could shuck and scoop 100 to 125 bushels of corn a day. He was always willing to help any of his friends and neighbors when the occasion arose and was known as a capable man. Married 1 Nov. 1916 St. Joseph, Missouri. Farmed with his father after marrying until 1929. He then rented farms for two years, before buying a farm southeast of Lamoni, Iowa in March 1931. Lived there until Jan. 1937, when he bought a second farm a mile west and south of Lamoni. A part of his operation in farming was the raising of purebred short horn cattle and his horses descended from the Stallions of the King Ranch in Kleberg County, Texas. Jim was in an auto accident 6 Dec. 1962 and died of injuries 9 Dec. 1962 in Des Moines, Iowa. He is buried in the Lily Cemetery north of Lamoni, Iowa beside his parents.
