Veleda McCord, 73, of Winfield, Kansas passed away at her home Friday evening, February 19, 2010. Born September 12, 1936 in Hayes, Kansas, she was the daughter of Frank and Aleda (Saindon) Schuckman.


She was raised and received her education in Wichita where she attended St. Mary's High School. After school Veleda worked for Christopher Steel and Wichita Sheet Metal.


She was married and had five children. The couple later divorced.


On December 31, 1975 Veleda was united in marriage to Floid Ray McCord in Wichita, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Temple, Texas, where she work for Scott and White Hospital. In 1977 they returned to Winfield where Veleda began working for General Electric Company. She remained at GE for over 20 years before retiring in the late 1990's.


She enjoyed golf, poetry, stamping, reading, quilting, photography, painting, playing games, cards, dominoes, and especially loved spending time with her family.


Her family includes: Her husband, Floid Ray McCord of the home;

Her daughters: Linda Hinnenkamp and husband, Jack of Salina; Kim Patten of Albuquerque, NM; Diantha Davis of Albuquerque, NM; Michelle Sides and husband, Roger of Neosho, MO; Pam Bryant and husband, Ken of Arkansas City; Wanee Hughes and husband, Mike of Gillette, WY;

Her son: Chris Christensen and wife, Sabra of Ft. Worth, TX;

Her sister: Bernice Mynatt and husband, Clyde of Atlanta, GA; and

Her 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.


In addition to her parents Veleda was preceded in death by a son Steven Ray McCord.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., February 24, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00. The family will greet visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 that evening.


A memorial has been established in Veleda's name for Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
