Andrew Joseph4 Skolfield (Joseph^, Joseph2, Thomas1) was born 16 June 1838; married Caroline R. Mereen, daughter of John Flavel Mereen and Rachel R. Wormwood, in 1857. He died in Havana, Cuba, on 19 November 1859.
Master Mariner son of Joseph Jr. & Lucy Ann (Persy) Skolfield. Andrew went to sea at age thirteen in 1852, sailing under his relative Captain David J. Persy in the bark "Vista" of Richmond, Maine. The following year, he shipped in the ship "M. de Embil, Andrew T. Persy, master. Both voyages were to Havanna. In 1856, Andrew Skolfield was a seaman in the ship "Stephen Larrabee" of Bath, John W. Gray, master, on a voyage from New York to London, returning to New Orleans. By 1859, he was mate on board the bark Henry Warren of Bath, Charles H. Orr,
master, from New York to Havana. Attached to the Warren's
crew list, turned in at New York December 20,1859, is a consular certificate stating that Andrew J. Skolfield, mate, had died of "bilious fever" in Havana and had received a Christian burial. There is a monument for him at Hillside Cemetery, Phippsburg, Maine. It is noted that he was quite a fine artist and painted some splended pictures of ships.

Caroline R. Mereen was born 24 April 1840 in Phippsburg, Maine; died in 1919 and was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Phippsburg. She was living, as a widow, with her two sons in the Mereen household according to the 1860 Federal Census which listed her as a teacher, but the 1870 census shows her two sons living in the household of their grandfather Joseph Skolfield, Jr. She married, second,
21 September 1873, Alfred H. Wilson of Bath. The 1874 Bath City Directory lists Mrs. Caroline R. Skolfield as owner of a "fancy goods shop" in Kimball's Block on Front Street, Bath, but she was not listed in 1876.
The children of Andrew Joseph4 Skolfield and Caroline R. Mereen, both born in Phippsburg, Maine, were:

i. Joseph Francis5 Skolfield was born 17 June 1858; married, first, Inez L. French; married,
second, Clara M. Adderton; married, third, Elizabeth May Austin; married, fourth, Bertha Austin.

ii. John Albert Minot Skolfield was born 24 January 1860; married Nonie E. Cheeseman on 14 August 1881 in Phippsburg, Maine. Known as "Bert," he was engineer and second mate under his brother Joseph Francis "Frank" Skolfield as master on the Aloha, 1891- 1892. He died 23 June 1893 in Hallowell, Maine, and was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Phippsburg, Maine.
