Harvey was the eldest of 11 children born to German immigrant Frank Klein and Lucinda Frances Arnold. They had a farm in what is now Marceline, MO. Grandpa Harvey grew up in a one room log cabin where all the children slept up in the loft. He attended a one-room school house for his elementary education. He attended the University of Missouri and was in the Cadet Class for 1909.
Grandpa Harvey and several of his siblings relocated to Chicago, IL. he attended Northwestern University and became a teacher of political and social sciences. He would become the Dean of Herzl College of DePaul University.
