In memoriam of Imogene Terrill Combs
On Thursday, May 24, 2012, Imogene Terrill Combs, Boonville, went home to be with her Savior and Lord. She was born to Beverly Terrill, Jr. and wife Mary Burdette Terrill in Berea, KY on August 31, 1913. They preceded her in death. She was one of six children, all who preceded her in death. Ralph, Raymond, Harold, Ethel, Gertrude. It delighted Imogene to know she ‘out lived them all'. She would have been 99 in August, living 98 good years blessed by God. She was married to Dewey Combs in 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1985. Their daughter, Barbara Jean Combs Oldaker, died in 2003. Imogene asked Jesus into her heart as a child at Glades Christian Church in Berea, KY. where she wanted to remain a member. She remembered vividly playing the piano for them as a child and teenager. Dewey and Imogene moved to Boonville, NC in 1934 where they owned and operated ‘The Green Frog' café. In 1937 they moved to Rahway, NJ. She was a homemaker and a CAN at a Nursing Home there. During World War II she worked at General Motors and made roller barrens for B17's. In 1972 was a good year for them, moving to Boonville and purchasing their retirement home on West Main Street where she tended to her beautiful rose gardens and made a host of new friends. She enjoyed her activities with the Home Demonstration Club ladies. She had many friends in her Sunday school class and mission group at Boonville Baptist Church, most who have preceded her in death as well. A special thanks to those who continued to send her thoughts and messages via cards. Imogene made ‘her home;, in her later years, at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin, where she received excellent care. She played the piano on many occasions for them until her eye sight failed her. Her assisted living companions, activity directors, dieticians, doctors, nurses, CNA's and many others became ‘her' family. To them, Imogene and her family, says THANK YOU and to her friend ‘Trish' at the nursing home. Imogene is survived by her treasured grandson, Tom Oldaker and wife Jenny of Bainbridge, Ga., a great granddaughter Ashten Oldaker and great grandson Evan Oldaker, Roberta Tilson, granddaughter, great-grandson, Zachary Arnold, RuthAnn Anderson-Quinn, granddaughter, and husband Mark Quinn and great-grandson Abyaha Quinn, living in South Carolina. In addition to survivors are nieces and nephews: Jack and Linda Crissman, Kenneth and Jenny Carter, Nell Norman, Benny and Colene Steelman, Roger and Kathy Ellis, Bobby and Aladene Norman, Varner and Sarah Stinson, Bill Jr and JoAnn Combs, Jean Voltman and Bud and Marie Combs. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville will be serving the family. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday may 28, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Boonville Community Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the VFW post 10346, 2712 Sloans Mill Rd, Hamptonville, NC 27020. She was an avid supporter of all veterans; the activity center at Hugh Chatham Nursing center, 700 Johnson Ridge Rd. attn. Carolyn Caldwell, Elkin, NC 28621; or to the donor's choice. This will help provide continued activites, outings and Bible study for the residents. Online condolences may be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
