V. Iris DeWilde, 75, of 720 Hilldale St., Eureka, died at 1:33 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.

She was born on April 17, 1930, in Roanoke, to Raymond and Laola Dickerson Maxey. She married Eugene J. DeWilde Sr. on September 6, 1953, in Greenville, Miss. He died on August 6, 2001.

She is survived by two sons, Eugene J. (Jeanne) DeWilde Jr. of Winona Lake, Ind.; and Michael (Kim) DeWilde of Lafayette, Ind.; two grandchildren, Angela (Ben) Carnahan of Indianapolis, Ind.; and Christopher DeWilde of Chicago; and two great-granddaughters, Raynn and Autumn DeWilde.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clyde Maxey.

A registered nurse, she worked for the United States Air Force at various military hospitals throughout the country for 30 years.

An active servant of the community, Iris was a member of the Eureka Women's Club; the Twentieth Century Club; the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Eureka Community Hospital Service League; and the P.E.O.
She was a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at her church. The Rev. Ronald Martz will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka and from noon to 1 p.m. at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Roanoke Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to Methodist Hospice.
