Mrs. Elmer E. Simmers, 71, departed this life at her home near High Point, Sunday, February 14. Lucy Rebecca Simmers, daughter of John and Minerva (Russell) Reynolds, was born July 5, 1871. Early in life she united with the Union Christian Church, near High Point, and continued her membership there until 1918, at which time she united with the Green Ridge Baptist Church. She attended church there and kept her membership at Green Ridge throughout the rest of her life.

She was married to Samuel Jacob Denny February 26, 1899, who preceded her in death August 29, 1937. To this union three children were born, Ralph of Olean, Mo., Ernest and Roscoe, both of Eldon, Mo.

On December 20, 1939, Mrs. Denny entered into a second marriage to Elmer E. Simmers whom she leaves to mourn her passing and to sadly miss her cheerful companionship. Besides her husband and three sons, she is also survived by two sisters, Eva Simmers of Wann, Okla., and Mellie Parks of Barnett, Mo.; two brothers, Grant and Jefferson Reynolds of near High Point, Mo.; four grandchildren, five step-children, and a host of other near and dear relatives and friends.

Mrs. Simmers was well and favorably known in this and surrounding communities. She would walk any distance to call on sick neighbors and friends, offering assistance and comfort where needed. One of her chief interests in life was the welfare of her family. She never tired of ministering to them, teaching and training her children in love and righteous living.

Casket bearers were Lawrence Hogsett, Andy Zey, Earl, Edd, Harold and Gerald Simmers. Mrs. Simmers' grandchildren carried the beautiful flowers at the service. The body lay in state at her home in Olean until 2:30 p.m. Monday when funeral services were conducted at the Green Ridge Church by Rev. N.E. Williams of Eldon, assisted by Rev. A.L. Alexander of Eldon, and Rev. Swinney of Eldon. Members of the Green Ridge choir furnished the music for the service with Mrs. Harry Rea at the piano. Burial was made in the church cemetery under direction of the Kays Funeral service of Eldon.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Simmers and family of Russellville; Mr. and Mrs. Edd Simmers, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Zey and Mrs. Aaron Lunceford, all of California, Mo.; Edward Reynolds of Wann, Okla.; Harold Simmers of St. Louis; Edgar Simmers of Clarksburg; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Denny and family of Eldon; Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Piercey, Mrs. Kate Rinehart of Jefferson City; Mrs. Leo Rinehart of Eldon; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hogsett, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Reynolds of High Point, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Parks, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Reynolds and family of Barnett, Mo.; and Mrs. Susie Barbour of Latham.
