Dorothy was the oldest of thirteen children born to David Homer and Agnes Namoni (Cress) Corl. She married Hiram Pendleton Caton Jr. in 1931 and they were the parents of three children: Alice Elizabeth, Hiram Pendleton III, and Dorothy Ann. She married (2nd) Frederic Ingram Epley in 1972.
