Funeral services for former Cortez resident, Lanier Maxwell Ahkeah, 27, of Aurora, Colorado, [will be held] on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Pastor Arnold Ahkeah will officiate. Burial will be in the Cortez Cemetery.
Mr. Ahkeah was born in Gallup, New Mexico, on Aug. 23, 1971. He passed away in Aurora on Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. He was a 1989 graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Edward and Marie Benjamin, and his paternal grandparents, Willie and Eula Ahkeah.
He is survived by his parents, Roger and Patty S. Benjamin Ahkeah, Cortez; his brother, Shawn Ahkeah, Aurora; aunts and uncles: Wallace and Annie Ahkeah, Rita and Tony Cornfield, Tom and Betty Bryant, all of Cortez; Sammy and Clara Ahkeah, Alice John and family, Ramus and Arlene Lee, Stanley Benjamin, Rosalyn Johnson and family, and Tony and Bertha Benjamin, all of Shiprock; Arnold and Rosalie Ahkeah, Grand Junction; Curtis Ahkeah, Ardemore, Oklahoma, and Jimmy Benjamin of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Services will be under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
