A Revolutionary War Soldier. Stone no longer standing.

Husband of Clarinda Atkins.

He came to Chautauqua Lake about 1808, locating near Wm. Bemus in Ellery, and in 1810 settled in the town of Gerry, built a log house, and in 1814 was chosen supervisor of the town.

His wife, Clarinda, died in 1815. This was the first death to occur in the town of Gerry.

Andrew Youngs History of Chautauqua CO states Amos came here from Vermont, brother in law was Stephen JONES ,( in 1830 is 40-50) Amos was town supervisor in 1814 to 1817.

Soldier of the Revolution

AMOS is gone from any data prior to 1820.

He lived on the same property as Stephen Jones and was not there in 1820 or any other census.

In 1815 Gerry then comprised the towns of Gerry, Charlotte, Cherry Creek and Ellington.

While associated with a surveying-party Amos Atkins selected two choice lots, one for himself and one for his brother-in-law, Stephen Jones, Jr., early in 1809, we believe not 1810, for his name and that of Stephen Jones. Jr. appear in land-sales records of the Holland Land Co. as original purchasers in 1809 of land in Twp 3 Range 11 (Gerry).

Jones settled on his land, Lot 47 and built a log house about a mile south of the present village of Sinclairville, the first habitation in the area.

Amos erected a log house on his land without delay, in 1809 or 1810.
