She was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Chisholm to Martin and Catherine (Mihelich) Champa. She graduated from Chisholm High School and attended night school, studying business administration for one year.
Julia was united in marriage in 1934 to Ludvig G. Aamodt and moved to Bagley, Minn. She moved to the Minneapolis area in 1942. While living there she was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park where she taught Sunday school for 30 years. Julia retired from the University of Minnesota Hospital in 1978 after 32 years of service. She then moved to Mountain Iron, where she joined the Messiah Lutheran Church and was an active member, serving in various capacities from 1984 until 2011. She then moved to Tennessee to live with her son, Jerry and his wife.
She is survived by her sons, Donald (Karen) Aamodt of Elk River, Minn. and Jerry (Patricia) Aamodt of Crossville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Groshel of Chisholm; Sylvia Strilich of Hibbing; and Marge Peterson of Chisholm; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ludvig G. on Dec. 7, 1991; two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, 2012, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mountain Iron, with the Rev. Kristin Foster officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Chisholm Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Chisholm. Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
