WHITEVILLE -- Max Newton "Mickey " Greer Jr., 61, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Max Newton Greer and Mary Ellen Swain Greer. Mickey was the advertising manager at The News Reporter for 26 years but had worked here for 39 years. He was a member of Whiteville First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of the adult choir. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, reading, running and singing. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at McKenzie Mortuary. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 27 at Whiteville First Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Hinson and Rev. Kendall Cameron officiating. Burial will be in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. Mickey is survived by his wife, Carol Smith Greer; two daughters, Ellen Greer Harris and husband, Charlie, of Charlotte and Sarah Adams Greer of Winston-Salem; one son, Max Newton Greer III and wife, Cynthia, of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Ellen Maxine Greer and Lucy Swain Moody, both of Asheboro; and four grandchildren, Charles Jackson Harris, Margaret Olivia Harris, Avery Anne Greer and Benton Max Greer
