William and his siblings emigrated to the US, arriving at the Port of Boston on the SS Phoenician, 1493 tons, on 7 Sep 1882. They stayed with and were raised by their aunt Eliza (Barris) Sanderson in Lowell, Middlesex, MA.

William married Alice Gertrud Head on 24 Jun 1903 in Concord, Middlesex, MA. Less than three years later he died in a passenger train wreck. His 18 month old son, Irving was with him and died also.
