In 1937 in Goree, Knox County, Texas, he completed a brief, unpublished history of that branch of the Arnold family that had migrated from Virginia to Kentucky and Texas, including brief histories of the associated Rucker, Pearce and Young, Brown, and Donelson families. His son Charles William Arnold, Sr., and Charles's wife Mary Alice Cone Arnold shared those unpublished histories and other documents with their extended family.
(The middle name "Doolin" given him at birth should have been "Dooley," to reflect the last name of a direct ancestor of his father. Elizabeth "Betsy" Dooley (1757-1849) married Arabia Jackson Brown, Sr. (1755-1844).)
