JAY O. BELLINGER DEAD AT 84

Jay O. Bellinger, a familiar figure at Clare’s Memorial Day parade and Farwell’s Labor Day parade, died May 8 at the Clare Nursing Home. He was 84.

He had missed only two out of 50 years marching on Memorial Day. He was born June 27, 1897 at Farwell the son of Arthur and Flora Gagner Bellinger.

Jay was a rural mail carrier out of Farwell for 41 years and was a Veteran of WW I.

He was active in the community, a life member of Zenobia Chapter Order of Eastern Stars of Clare, a member of Clare United Methodist Church, a 63 year member of Corning Masonic Lodge 335 of Farwell and a life member of Harrison Post American Legion.

Jay could be seen in the parades in Farwell and Clare dressed in his WW I uniform and carrying his mail sack.

He was married to Alta Kidder September 1, 1923 after her death in December 22, 1972 he was married to Leona Rowe Miller who preceeded him October 15, 1976.

Surviving are 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary Purvis of Farwell and Mrs, Iva Malosh of Clare; 3 step-children, Allen Kidder of Green Valley, Arizona, Mrs. Alta Kincaid of Palmyra, Wisconsin and Mrs. Dna Miller of Grand Rapids; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 11 at 2 p.m. from the Clare United Methodist Church with Rev. Marvin Rosa officiating. Burial was in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Clare. Masonic memorial services under the auspices of Corning Lodge were held Monday evening at 8 p.m. at the Coker Funeral Home in Farwell who were in charge of arrangements.
