Sharon Ann Strickland Cannon, age 58, left her home on 18 May 2012 at 8:45am to join the LORD. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm Monday, 21 May 2012 at Pinelake Church in Brandon. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 7:00pm Sunday, 20 May 2012 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon and from 1:00pm until 2:00pm Monday at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Gardens.
She is preceded in death by her father, Louis Gene Strickland.
She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of almost 37 years, Dr. C. Ron Cannon; three sons, Ron Cannon, Jr. and wife Katie, Cory Cannon and wife Michelle, and Rob Cannon and wife Lauren; her mother, Bonnie Fulgham Strickland; two sisters, Susan Crawford and husband Reggie, and Stephanie Smith and husband Ben; two grandchildren, Lila Shae Cannon and Hannah Kate Cannon; nieces, Lauren Crawford Flatt and husband David, and Amy Strickland Crawford; two nephews, Ty Smith and Brady Smith; mother-in-law, Ruth Cannon, and sister-in-law, Marcia Cannon.
Sharon was the living embodiment of the noble wife described in Proverbs 31. She loved this life but looked forward to the next eternal one. Her loves were her God and her family. She had a servant mentality and eagerly served infants and young children as well as the less fortunate that God put into her path.
She never met a stranger, always friendly and vivacious. Sharon gave wise counsel and was a talented organizer who was truly generous and sharing in her community. She was truly lovely both inside and out. She is remembered most for her beautiful smile and infectious laughter.
Sharon was active in a number of activities. She was president of a number of PTO organizations for her children's schools. She was active in her church serving as a director of the nursery ministry, various church committees, as well as numerous international mission trips. Her last ministry was serving in the Pinelake Hospital Ministry. She also loved the Daughters of American Revolution. She was the Mississippi Representative in the National Junior DAR competition, regent of the local Chief Red Jacket Chapter of the DAR, and served on the Board of Directors for Rosalie DAR Mansion in Natchez. On a national level she served as chairperson of the platform committee, and served as the personal page to the President General of the DAR traveling extensively both nationally and internationally.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the dedicated cadre of sitters who cared for her night and day for the past three and half years. Also appreciation is expressed to those dedicated friends who have steadfastly offered up thousands of prayers on her behalf and especially the prayer warriors from Vicksburg who came every Thursday to pray for her. Finally, gratitude is expressed to Dr. Adele Thiel for the neurologic care she rendered and to Dr. David Fleming for his ongoing medical care of Sharon and friendship to the family.
