Dorothy was a native of Monroe County, West Virginia, born April 10, 1923 to Rosser Garfield and Mary Elizabeth Kessinger Bostic. She moved to Connersville with her family as a child and attended Connersville area schools. On April 12, 1946, she was married at Central Christian Church to Oscar Monroe Horning with Rev. Ray Montgomery officiating. Dorothy was employed at American Central during the war, was a waitress and cleaned homes locally and had worked at Philco. She most enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and working in her garden and yard. Dorothy often traveled to area attractions on bus trips.
She is survived by three sons: Ronald D. Horning, Darrell G. Horning, both of Greenfield, Monte J. Horning and his wife, Sherrie of Sparta, Missouri; four grandchildren: Mary Horning of Indianapolis, Jason Horning, Eric Horning, both of Greenfield, Cheyenne Horning, Sparta, MO; seven great-grandchildren with another on the way; a sister: Lucille Grizzell of Connersville; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died May 13, 1987, an infant son and daughter; three sisters, Nellie Huddleston, Marcelline Hunter, Glenna Cook; two brothers: Glen Bostic and Harlan Bostic; and a daughter-in-law, Becky Horning.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Pastor Sue Jones of By His Grace Ministries officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday.
