Brigadier General USMC. He received the Bronze Star for service during the Battle for Guadalcanal. Gen. Kilmartin was born in Petersburg, VA, joined the marines in 1917 and served in France during WWI. He later served in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic and earned a law degree from George Washington University. After retiring in 1949, Gen Kilmartin was a stockbroker in Washington and later served as a staff lawyer for the Retired Officers Association. His first wife, the former Alice Smith, died in 1977. He was survived by his second wife, the former Barbara Bobzien, and a half brother, Frank Kilmartin of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
