Bobby Joe Crum was born 16 October 1939 at Whitehall, Arkansas, the son of Preston and Birdie Crum. He grew up with four brothers, and attended school for a short time at Bay Village and then the rest at Parkin, Arkansas. He married Shirley Woodson and they lived in Oak Harbour, Washington.
Bobby enlisted in the Navy 2 July 1958 and served for over six years. On 27 November 1964 he and eleven other members of Squadron 22 gave their lives when their plane crashed into the side of a mountain while on patrol duty near Cape Newenham, Alaska. Bobby Joe Crum is buried in Bay Village Cemetery.
