TAZEWELL, Va. Elmer Ross Baker, 72 years of age, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012, at his residence. Born April 22, 1940, in Dickenson County, Va., he was the son of the late Ireland McGot Baker and Rachel Leah Matney Baker. Elmer was of the Presbyterian faith. All who knew Elmer loved him, as he was a special person with little sayings. He loved everybody, especially little children. He enjoyed traveling and was always ready to go, but loved to come back home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his extended family, father, Bill Stinson; mother, Helen Stinson; and brother, Windel M. Baker. Survivors include one nephew, Wendell Baker and wife, Tammy, of Fort Worth, Texas; nieces, Michele Baker Nobles and husband, Jeff, of Houston, and Marcia Baker Walker and husband, Randy, of Columbia, Mo.; three great-nieces; and three great nephews. He is also survived by his extended family for the past 15 years, sister, Rita Maine and husband, Donnie, of Coeburn, Va., Rhonda Lyall and husband, Kyle, of Bristol, Tenn., sister/mom, Charlotte Christian and husband, Curtiss, of Tazewell; brother, Ivan Fleming and wife, Delacy, of Smuryna, Tenn.; special cousins, Jeffrey Matney and wife, Cynthia, of Vansant, Va. Graveside dervices will be conducted at Clinch Valley Memorial Gardens, Richlands, Va., Monday, May 21, 2012, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jeff Greene officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside service at 11 a.m., at the Clinch Valley Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers.
